Keyword research and the writers block

Have you ever found yourself wanting to write but totally lost as to what to write about? It’s all too easy to create a promotion or write a short article that describes what you do, but what about the real nitty gritty stuff that readers can actually use and digest? This is the writer’s block and a common problem even for the most influential bloggers and writers.

The best solution is keyword research. Through researching keywords you can quickly and easily source inspiration or stumble upon a nice meaty subject which is relevant and un-diluted.

Objectives of your research

To start writing is always the hardest part of the assignment. If you don’t know where to begin, then you have endless possibilities. Endless possibilities lead to never starting anything.

The first stage is to outlay the objectives of what it is you fancy writing about. What purpose will this piece of literature serve? Who is it aimed at? Is it topically relevant to your cause, your business or your strategy?

Next you need to brainstorm through a few ideas, choose topical phrases and then find words within that subject that are relevant and help describe the theme. This way you can develop sub categories of phrases and in most cases will help give your new piece of literature some direction or focal point.

Another helpful tool is to look at trending topics. There are three categories of words. Lifestyle keywords, product keywords and brand keywords as per the diagram below. You can write for the future by creating a trend or foreseeing a gap in the market where a particular phrase maybe useful or write using relevant phrases to the “now” and “your brand or product”. Either way, both have their advantages and both can pay off in the short and long term.

A useful tip is to think about your websites sitemap, look at what pages you have and see if there are perhaps areas where the content could be boosted. Supporting pages for your key pages using relevant content and topics that all fall within the realms of your theme. Then linking from your deep pages back up to the core topic pages will undoubtedly help with your natural SEO.

We have written about link building and social networking before on our blog, it’s worth a read to really get to grips with how to organise the structure of your site, parse your internal links and implement in the social networks.

Implementation
Once you have a topic or subject which you believe will be useful to your readers now or larger audiences in the future you need to start putting pen to paper, or curser to word would probably be more appropriate now a days.

But before you do simply jot down the key points in an ordered list, starting with an introduction to the problem. Then move onto alternate theories, maybe back them up with evidence or examples.

Before you know it you have the makings of a solution which can be followed by a simple conclusion and voila! You now have an article, a quick read back through to edit any punctuation and spelling mistakes and then paste into your favourite blog, website, news or whatever you use to generate readership.

The next stage is to tell people about your fantastic new article. Using the social networks is a very powerful method to spread the word and drive traffic to your article hosting platform, whether it is a blog or a website.

Conclusion
The key to writing is to have fun, the moment you lose focus on what it is you are trying to say the message becomes unclear and is not good for accurately conveying your point. Stay focused, keep it original and enjoy it…before long you will see the benefits of it.
