Introducing the Facebook Like button

Starting today people will be able to connect with your Facebook Page by clicking “Like” rather than “Become a Fan.” This is Facebook’s attempt to give the fan page a much more ‘lightweight feel’. Twitter’s new Promoted Tweets

Earlier this week Twitter announced, at the Chirp conference, that it was undergoing the initial steps in rolling out a new revenue program known as “promoted tweets”. The background behind this decision comes from Twitter being faced with the decision to either solve a user problem or improve the infrastructure (with limited development) or develop a revenue platform similar to that of Google AdWords. However unlike Google, which places its text-based AdWords ads alongside its search results, a promoted tweet will in fact be a tweet, not an ad. Original Xbox Live an end of an era

As of today if you own an original Xbox and play online or even play old games on the Xbox 360 online you should know that this is the last day you will be able to do so. Make your own Google search story

During the superbowl Google ran a 60 second advert which simply illustrated a few Google searches and some music to show a comical video snippet. It was well received around the globe. So much so Google have now created a very nifty tool to create your own videos. It’s not exactly Spielberg busting stuff but it is definitely quite fun to do. This simple video creation tool can be used by anyone and once your done you can even upload it to YouTube. All you need to do is type in some Google searches, add some music and hey presto! Done! Send it to your friends via Twitter or Facebook, upload to your YouTube channel or show your colleagues at work. Google are even suggesting that “if people really like your search story it may end up in a place you never dreamed.” Exciting stuff we think...bet

Using colours in web design

So often we see other designers and clients alike meticulously debating over the structure of a web design, ‘trying to get it right’, making it work and adding visual stimulation. This isn’t a bad thing at all but is often doing more harm than good when the simple reason the design isn’t working is actually down to colour choice rather than structure. The two really do work hand in hand. Colours are what add visual vibrancy to the design and layout of the website. Colours influence the mood of visitors when they visit your website and can be the crucial factor in determining a sale. In fact, with the right blend of colour combinations, you can actually encourage your visitors to follow your call-to-actions and help you achieve your core objectives through the website.
