Storytelling & Social Media – 3 Rules

If a picture says a thousand words, a poor Social Media update says one word – BORING

There is great power that comes with storytelling, but many are yet to use this to enhance their approach to social media. It’s all well and good posting daily, or even multiple times a day on Twitter, Facebook and the rest, but if nobodies engaging with you, you’re wasting your time.

We’re all human here (hopefully!) we love engaging with each other in all sorts of ways, a bit of witty banter here, a good old catch up there, a chin wag – whatever you want to call it, we all love doing it! The thing is, we all love being talked “to”, but nobody likes being talked “at”!

So, if your company or business is sending out streams and streams of posts about things nobody but your company care about, you’re talking “at” your audience, followers, clients and customers – everyone who is connected to you through social media.

3 Rules to Stop You Boring Your Social Media Friends to Death

1. Treat your social media contacts like people, not statistics to spam with boring company updates.

2. Whatever you post, make it interesting and engaging – something people can relate and respond to! E.g. Post one of your co-workers stories, I could guarantee everyone in your office has at least 10 noteworthy stories that are worth sharing with the world, so tell them!

3. Ask questions – You’re unlikely to hear fantastic stories from your Social Media contacts unless you ask! E.g. Anyone had an odd experience with office supplies? – You never know, an amazing stream of conversation and storytelling could be about to unfold, focussing on unfortunate stapler accident, but Who Knows? (Well, not you unless you ASK)

It’s all about online marketing; if your social media sites are boring and full of “nobody cares” updates – you’re doing a good job of presenting your company to the world as wait for it, you guessed it… boring!

If you’re communicating with your target market, clients or THE WORLD by blog, make it interesting, make it sexy, make it pretty – we can help,  we’ll turn your Blog from a Hot or Not 3 – to a 10, easy peasy. Check out more info on how we can help your blog here!
