New Twitter revamp devalues background theme images
The gradual roll out of the new Twitter over the past few weeks has been met by many words of admiration over the internet. Its new styling brings a new dimension to Twitter browsing enabling third party content such as videos and images to be viewed within a slide out panel from the Twitters profile.
The new Twitter makes viewing conversations easy and dynamic and as a result Twitter brings about new optimism for advertising prospects. The new changes will encourage greater usage by Twitterers, increasing exposure to the adverts as well as opening further opportunities for brand advertising via the social platform.
However with the new layout comes a fairly sizeable problem. One important part of having a Twitter profile is being able to customise the background image to tie in with the corporate branding and convey important contact information (if desired). Unfortunately however with the new Twitter layout it has meant many Twitter backgrounds are now redundant, especially if using the popular monitor sizes.
The new width of the Twitter profile (if signed in) at a minimum is around 42px in from the monitor edges no matter what size the monitor. The minimum width for the entire profile is around 900px which is fair enough but seriously Twitter, what are we supposed to do with 42px space either side for some nice illustrations? Prior to the new Twitter design we have at least 245px to play with either side, alas this is no more L
The maximum width for the profile is 1040px which is fine if you’re running a 22” widescreen monitor and only then can see the majority or background images.
As you can see from the screenshot below our main details from our own Twitter profile are now obscured. (Using a 1024 x 1280 monitor).
And it’s not just us, checkout iJustine’s Twitter profile below:
Looks like we’re going to have to re-design our background image, not a major problem though as it was in need of an update. If your Twitter profile image is being obscured by users with the new Twitter then post us a screenshot, or even get in touch so we can re-design you a new one.
